Welcome to the Dutch Garafiano web site! Garafiano is an abbreviated name for "El Perro de Pastor Garafiano", a breed of dogs from the north west corner of the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. It is difficult to find English (or Dutch) language information concerning the breed, so it was decided to set up this web site, to share information, links and experiences amongst owners and those interested in the Garafiano breed. The site has also proved informative and useful for people who are interested in adopting a Garafiano through Stichting AAI, an organisation that brings stray dogs from, amongst other places, La Palma to the Netherlands for placement in good homes.
On the Garafiano forum we discuss the Garafiano breed. You can tell us about your own dog, ask and answer questions and place and view photographs. The forum is intended for everyone with a Garafiano, or cross-bred Garafiano, for those who would like to find out more information or are curious about the breed and for those who would just like to chat about them. You will find most of the forum is in Dutch, but don't let that put you off. There are other language speakers on the forum and you will be made welcome in English too. Register and join in!
